July 11th, 2017 – Tomorrow we start on our annual Summer motorcycle trip. We are going “a little overboard” this year. An Edelweiss tour bearing the name: ” The Majestic Swiss Alps Tour”. I think that says it all. Five Countries and 10 – 12 days of riding: Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and several days in the Italian Dolimites. FYI – here’s how an Edelweiss tour works. First, you pay your pesos, or, in this case, your euros. Next, you choose your motorcycle – They have several brands of European bikes. (All but 1 of our group will be on BMW GS’s; mainly because that’s what we ride at home / one will be on a Ducati). Edelweiss takes it from there. They book the Hotels; and include all breakfasts and dinners. There are 2 guides – one leads each day and the other follows with the luggage in a van. Each day the guides change duties. At the end of each day’s ride, our luggage will be in our room awaiting us. We get a couple of hours for “Bar Time” ; followed by dinner ( usually at the Hotel ). All meals were 5 star, and the Hotels were all pretty awesome. Each morning, we will pack our bag and take it to the lobby prior to leaving on the day’s ride. Tough life, huh?.

There are 9 us going. I think all but 2 of the group. are using there Social Security checks to finance this trip .. We all meet every Saturday AM for breakfast and a ride afterward if the weather permits. We sometimes have 15-20 for breakfast. Many of the group have been going on these Summer trips for the last 20 years. The usual deal is to ship our motorcycles to the destination, fly there, ride for 2 weeks, load them back on the truck and fly home. This trip is definitely a “step up”.

I plan to use this site to post pics of the trip. I’m a terrible photographer, but I’ll try to cull out the best of the worst; and maybe add photos from others. Well, they are passing out the jello; so I’ll have to continue tomorrow. We meet here in Birmingham at 11:30, drive to Atlanta and catch a 6:30 PM direct Delta flight to Munich, Germany. “Sleepless night!!!”

The “Home” dropped us off in the group van promptly at 11 AM for the shuttle to the Atlanta Airport. From Left to Right: David, Me, Eric, Gene,Ed, C.J., Corky, Bob and Ray.. Ray is trying to give the impression that he is our Driver. And yes, several of us just had our annual eye exams earlier in the day.

First Class has its “perks” – Above we enjoy the hospitality In the Delta Lounge.
Below, we are finally in the air: and on tour way to Germany and the Alps. And yes, that lady “hit” on me the whole flight.

In Atlanta waiting for our direct flight to Munich. Ed already is pissed about there being no pudding or jello at the Atlanta Airport.

On board: and I discover immediately why 1st Class does NOT suck!

Now, this is more like it! Our transportation from Munich to Seefeld, Austria.

We stayed in Seefeld, Austria for 3 nights – 2 days to “adjust” and on the 3rd day we get our bikes and receive a short “briefing” and meet our 2 guides ( Marco and Malcomb ). Seefeld is a neat little town about 12 miles from the Edelweiss Headquarters. We wandered around for a couple of hours before heading back for a great meal at the St. Peter Hotel.

This is the Edelweiss Van that carried our luggage and met us each night at our hotel.

Seefeld Church. We spent hours in there- in prayer mostly…

Looks like one of those rooms you rent by the hour. Gene told me to add that. I still have no idea what he meant.
